Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College softball team earned the sweep today in Mahwah defeating the Red Hawks of Montclair State, 2-0 an 5-2. Ramapo improves 9-7 overall, 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Red Hawks fall to 10-4 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
Game 1: Junior ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) ripped a home run in the bottom of the 3rd to lead off the inning giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead over Montclair. Junior LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ ) ripped a single in the 1st driving in junior ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ ) scoring what turned out to be the game winner. The Roadrunners held Montclair for the remaining innings earning the 2-0 victory in Mahwah. MOORE led the way hitting 3-4 with one run while PASTIGLIONE went 1-2 with one run and one RBI and sophomore ELIZABETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ) posted two hits on three at bats.
For the Red Hawks, Athanasia Totaro (Roseland, NJ ) led the way hitting 2-3 while Crystal Dahlhaus (Parsippany, NJ ) posted the Red Hawks only other hit batting 1-3 in the loss.
Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ ) held Montclair to three hits pitching the complete game improving to 4-3. MARINO struck out three and walked two while Totaro records the loss in 2 1/3 innings, striking out one and letting up five hits (one homerun) and two runs, both earned.
Game 2: Ramapo scored first in the second game of the double header when MOORE homered to left field to start off the game giving Ramapo a 1-0 edge. PASTIGLIONE then ripped a double to center and later scored on a CHOMA single to center. In the 4th, CHOMA singled to center as did MEGAN HICKS (Paramus, NJ ) putting runners at first and second. HEATHER CAMB (Totowa, NJ ) singled in CHOMA taking a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Montclair state scored their first run of the game when Megan Sweeney (Edison, NJ ) had an RBI groundout to second scoring pinch runner Zairy Ramos (Newark, NJ ). In the top of the 5th, CHOMA walked and stole second and later came home on a RBI double from rookie AMANDA JONES (Rutherford, NJ ). Montclair State's Joelle Fata (Bloomfield, NJ) walked and stole second and later came home on a RBI double from Totaro in the 5th closing the gap to 5-2. Ramapo scored their final run of the game when MOORE ripped her second home run over the left field wall. The Roadrunners held Montclair State scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings as CAMB struck out the final batter to end the game, 5-2 over Red Hawks.
CAMB earned the win pitching the complete game, striking out three and walking one, letting up three hits. CAMB improves to 2-2 while Dana Warnock (Kearny, NJ ) falls to 4-2 recording the loss in 3 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking none, letting up eight hits including one home run.
The Roadrunners will host the University of Maine at Presque tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
