ROADRUNNERS DEFEAT COAST GUARD, FALLS TO PENN STATE BEHREND

Osceola, Fl: The Ramapo College Softball Team split a pair of games today at The Rebel Spring Games. They defeated Coast Guard, 9-3 and fell to Penn State Behrend, 3-7. With the split the Roadrunners are 3-3 on the season.

Game 1: A balanced offensive attack and strong pitching lead the Roadrunners to a 9-3 win over Coast Guard. They got on the board early in the second inning when sophomore Amanda Sansevere (Hazlet, NJ) ripped a double to left field to score sophomore Marliee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) who reached base on an error and senior Leah Mondadori (Rutherford, NJ) who reached on a single. Ramapo would score two more runs in the third inning as senior Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) doubled home two Roadrunners, sophomore Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) and senior Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) who reached on a single and base on balls respectively. They tacked on another two runs in the fifth inning as Cascino scored on a pass ball and senior Gemma Chalkley (West Milford, NJ) scored Choma from third base on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Cascino doubled home Rossi in the sixth inning to add another run, while Choma ripped a two-run homerun over the right field wall.

Coast Guard got on the board in the first scoring two runs and added another in the seventh to make the score 9-3.

Choma went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and four RBI's, Cascino was also 3-4 and had 3 runs scored and one RBI.

Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) picked up the win, allowing eight hits in six innings of work. She struck out five and walked one. Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) pitched the final inning not allowing a hit wile striking out two.

Game 2: Penn State Behrend got on the board early scoring one run in the first and two in the second to put them ahead 3-1.

Ramapo also scored in the first, as rookie Katie Donnelly (North Haldeon, NJ) singled past the shortstop and stole second to put herself in scoring position before Choma grounded out to second base to allow Donnelly to score. They tacked on two more in the sixth inning when Farmer scored from second on a single to center from rookie Jen Vitorino ( , NJ) who advanced to second on the throw home. Rookie Jamie Chalkley (West Milford, NJ) then pinch ran and crossed home plate when senior Ginny O'Brien (Emerson, NJ) singled to left field. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh as the score stood at 7-3 in the favor of Penn State Behrend.

Donnelly went 3-4 with one run scored and Choma went 2-3 with one RBI. Marissa Marino (Wayne, NJ) took the loss falling to 2-1 allowing six runs in five innings of work with four strikeouts and two walks. Camb pitched the final two innings allowing two hits.

The Roadrunners continue their Spring Trip at the Rebel Games tomorrow when they play Simpson at 1:00 PM and Carthage at 3:00 PM.
