Mahwah , NJ : The Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden defeated the Roadrunners of Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah for their first ever New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
Game 1: The game remained scoreless until the top of the 5th when Ramapo's Elizabeth Choma (East Brunswick , NJ ) walked to lead off and later scored on a single by sophomore
Erica Moore (Hazlet , NJ ). The Roadrunners added an insurance run in the 6th when
Lisa Rizzo (Dumont , NJ ) ripped a double to center field scoring rookie
Michele Rossi (Emerson , NJ ) who led off the inning with a single. Senior pitcher
Jamie Anzaldi (Clifton , NJ ) posted a 1-2-3 7th inning including a strike out for the 2-0 shut out victory over the Scarlet Raptors. Anzaldi struck out five and walked two, letting up three hits in seven innings. Anzaldi improved to 19-3 on the year while sophomore pitcher Michelle Schlichtig (Barrington , NJ ) fell to 19-6 striking out seven and walking one in six innings.
Moore went 2-4 with one RBI while Rizzo hit 1-3 with one RBI of her own. Rossi and Choma each added a run in the game. For Rutgers Camden, Stacy Haas (Florence, NJ) hit a perfect 2-2 while Schlichtig added one hit on three at bats.
Championship Game: Rutgers Camden posted a run in the bottom of the 3rd after (Upper Deerfield, NJ) ripped a single to center to lead off. With two outs, junior Becky Johnson (Bridgeton , NJ ) drove in Fisher with a single of her own. Rutgers Camden held the Roadrunners in the remainder of the game earning the 1-0 victory, the championship title, and an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Championship Tournament. Schlichtig struck out struck out eight and walked none in her 20th win of the year. Anzaldi falls to 19-4 striking out six and walking four in six innings.
Celeste Chinappi (Bellmawr , NJ ) went 2-3 while Johnson and Fisher went 1-3 with one RBI and 1-2 with one run respectively. For Ramapo, Moore hit 2-3 and
Andrea Pastiglione (Southern California , CA) and Choma hit 1-3 on the day.
Ramapo awaits news on an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.
