ROWAN ELIMINATED IN OPENING GAME

RUTGERS CAMDEN AND RAMAPO ADVANCE TO FINALS

Mahwah , NJ : Ramapo eliminated Rowan University in game one of the day recording a 1-0 victory. Rutgers Camden dropped Montclair , 2-1 in game two to advance to the finals and Ramapo posted a 2-1 victory over the Red Hawks for the second spot in the finals. Rowan finished the tournament28-11 while Montclair ends 29-10. Rutgers Camden improved to 31-8 while Ramapo stands at 32-5.

Game 1: Ramapo College took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st after the lead off batter Erica Moore (Hazlet , NJ ) ripped a single to left and later scored on a wild pitch. Senior pitcher Jamie Anzaldi (Clifton , NJ ) held the Profs to three hits, striking out five, earning the shut out victory. Anzaldi improves to 17-3 for the year.

Moore hit 1-3 with one run while senior Michelle Micklos (Tuxedo, NY) and sophomore Lisa Rizzo (Dumont , NJ ) went 1-3 in the game. Christina Traphagen (Toms River, NJ) posted one hit on two at bats in the win. For the Profs, Casey Bartolf (Jackson, NJ) and Jen Blair (Woodbury, NJ) each posted one hit on two at bats while Sara Dickey (Skippack, PA) batted 1-3. Sophomore pitcher Colleen Oswald (Turnersville , NJ ) pitched the complete game striking out two and walking none, letting up four hits. Oswald falls to 14-6.

Game 2: Montclair fell behind 1-0 in the 3rd when Rutgers Camden's Celeste Chinappi (Bellmawr , NJ ) drove a single to left with one out, and scored on a Mo Baney (Deptford , NJ ) single. In the 4th, Chinappi drove in the lead off batter, Tara Fisher (Upper Deerfield, NJ), who walked to get on base, taking a two run lead. The Red Hawks closed the gap in the bottom of the 5th off a single to center by Athanasia Totaro (Roseland , NJ ). Totaro crossed Joelle Fata (Bloomfield , NJ ) who ripped a single with two outs in the inning. Sophomore pitcher Michelle Schlichtig (Barrington , NJ ) held Montclair earning the win. Schlichtig improves to 19-5 striking out six and walking one in seven innings advancing Rutgers Camden to the NJAC finals in the winner's bracket. Senior pitcher Crystal Sweeney (Edison , NJ ) records the loss falling to 16-6. Sweeney struck out three and walked three in the loss.

Chinappi went 2-3 with one run and one RBI while Baney hit 1-4 with one run. Diana Auteri (Lyndhurst , NJ ) hit a perfect 3-3 while Totaro went 1-2 with one RBI. Fata posted the lone run in the loss.

Game 3: The Roadrunners grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of 3rd after Moore crossed the plate on a double to left by rookie Michele Rossi (Emerson , NJ ). Rookie Elizabeth Choma (East Brunswick , NJ ) hit a single of her own driving in Rossi with two outs in the inning. In the 7th, Dianna Petronaci (Brick, NJ) pinch hit ripping a single, and Fata re-entered crossing the plate on a single by Dana Sprague (North Arlington , NJ ). Anzaldi held the Red Hawks for the final out earning her 18th victory of the year. Anzaldi improves to 18-3. Sweeney records the loss striking out none and walking none in 2 1/3 innings. Sweeney falls to 16-7.

Rossi went 1-3 with one run and one RBI while Choma hit 1-3 with one RBI. Moore posted the second run hitting 1-4 in the game. Auteri posted two hits on four at bats while Totaro, Sprague, and Megan Sweeney (Edison , NJ ) went 1-4. Sprague posted an RBI and Fata added the run.

Rutgers Camden will face Ramapo tomorrow in the finals of the 2004 NJAC Tournament at noon .
