Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept the Pioneers of William Paterson University today at the Athletic Center improving to 23-3 overall, 12-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 22-6 overall, 9-5 in the conference.
Game 1: Sophomore LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ) ripped a solo home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the 6th giving Ramapo their 22nd win of the year, 11th in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, 1-0 over the Pioneers. Senior pitcher JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) pitched a complete game, striking out three, walking one, letting up six hits and no runs. ANZALDI improves to 13-2.
RIZZO batted 1-3 with one run and one RBI while sophomores ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) and ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) hit 1-2 and 1-3 respectively. Senior third baseman MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY) went 1-3 and COURTNEY GAMBETTA (Woodbridge, NJ) posted one hit on two at bats.
For the Pioneers, Jamie Fields (Galloway, NJ) and Erin McNeill (Little Falls, NJ) posted two hits on three at bats and Mindy Coxe (Gloucester, NJ) went 1-2 in the loss. Sophomore pitcher Jenn Scott (Mount Ephraim, NJ) pitched the complete game letting up five hits and one run, striking out two and walking one. Scott falls to 19-5.
Game 2: William Paterson took a 3-0 lead after two when rookie Alicia Albert (Voorhees, NJ) doubled to right field to lead off the 1st and later scored on a double by Liz Sisca (Andover, NJ). Sisca came home on a Fields single to center taking a 2-0 lead after one. In the second, Nicole Arias (Princeton Junction, NJ) reached on an error and scored the Pioneers' third run, taking a 3-0 lead after two. The Roadrunners got on the board in the 4th with runs by MICKLOS and MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ) who came home on a double by GAMBETTA. In the top of the 5th, the Roadrunners tied the game and scored the go-ahead run when ROSSI doubled to left scoring CRUZ and PASTIGLIONE who both ripped singles to get on base. ROSSI posted the fifth run when ELIZABETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice. ANZALDI stepped in in the 4th holding the Pioneers, striking out three and walking one, improving to 14-2.
ROSSI hit 2-4 with two runs and two RBI while MICKLOS and ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick, NJ) went 2-3 with one run each. GAMBETTA posted one hit on three at bats with two RBI.
For the Pioneers, Sisca hit 2-3 with one run and one RBI and Fields and Albert hit 1-3 with one RBI and 1-4 with one run respectively. Scott recorded the loss, falling to 19-6, striking out three and walking two in seven innings.
The Roadruners will travel to Rowan University on Tuesday, April 20th for a 3:00 PM start.
