RAMAPO SWEEPS NJAC RIVAL KEAN, 1-0 and 7-6

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept the Cougars of Kean University, 1-0 and 7-6 today at the Athletic Center improving to 21-3 overall, 10-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Kean falls to 8-18 overall, 5-9 in the conference.

Game 1: The game remained scoreless until the 5th inning when sophomore ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) ripped a singled to lead off. MOORE stole second and later scored on a single to center by rookie MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ). Senior pitcher JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) held Kean for the final innings earning the 1-0 shut out victory over the Cougars. ANZALDI pitched a complete two-hit game improving to 11-2 for the year with nine strike outs and no walks. MOORE hit 1-3 with one run while ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) went 1-3. ROSSI batted 1-3 with one RBI in the win.

For the Cougars, Lindsay Klein (Bloomfield, NJ) went 1-3 and Deanna Lynn (Clark, NJ) hit 1-2. Rookie pitcher Kristin Lawrence (Salem, NJ) recorded the loss pitching two innings with no strikeouts and no walks. Lawrence falls to 1-10.

Game 2: Ramapo took an early 6-0 lead through 4 ½ innings. LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ) drove in the first two for the Roadrunners after PASTIGLIONE singled and ROSSI reached on an error to get on base. In the second, PASTIGLIONE singled to right field driving in MOORE and TARA O'CALLAHAN (Barneget, NJ) and senior MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY) doubled bringing home PASTIGLIONE taking a 5-0 lead. The Roadrunners added a sixth in the top of the 5th before Kean posted three in the bottom of the inning closing the gap, 5-3. Leigh Greenberg (Carteret, NJ) singled to lead off and later scored on a RBI single by Klein, Thomas scored on an error and Megan Sworen (Frenchtown, NJ) drove in Klein to end the inning two runs behind the Roadrunners. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the 7th with runs by Klein and Thomas, off a double by Nicole Patterson (Hamilton, NJ), and Kristen Duska (Bound Brook, NJ). Ramapo scored the winning run in the 8th when MOORE crossed home plate on a MICKLOS double. ANZALDI held the Cougars in the 8th earning the 7-6 victory.

Rookie pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ) pitched 6 2/3 innings striking out three and walking two. ANZALDI earns the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking none. ANZALDI improves to 12-2 while Mary Gardiner (Tinton Falls, NJ) records the loss falling to 6-8 with three strikeouts and two walks in 8 innings.

PASTIGLIONE hit 2-4 with two runs and two RBI while MICKLOS and RIZZO went 2-4 with two RBI and 2-5 with two RBI respectively. For the Cougars, Klein went 2-5 with two runs and one RBI and Patterson hit 1-3 with two RBI. Thomas and Greenberg added two and one runs respectively.

Ramapo will host William Paterson tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
