RAMAPO SOFTBALL SWEEPS RUTGERS NEWARK WITH TWO SHUTOUTS, 4-0 and 15-0

Mahwah, NJ: Senior JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) and sophomore ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) both earned shutout one-hit victories today as the Ramapo College softball team shut out Rutgers Newark, 4-0 and 15-0. Ramapo improves to 12-2 overall, 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rutgers Newark falls to 8-9 overall, 0-4 in the conference.

Game 1: ANZALDI pitched a complete game letting up only one hit, striking out seven and walking two earning her 7th win of the season while Ashley Heaney (Ocean Township, NJ) recorded the loss pitching six, posting two strike outs and no walks.

Ramapo jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st when sophomore ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) ripped a double to lead off and later scored when rookie MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ) hit a single in the three-hole. The Roadrunners added runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th dropping the Scarlet Raiders 4-0. ANZALDI hit a RBI single scoring SHELLIE GUIDER (Jefferson, NJ) who pinch ran for MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY) who singled to get on base in the 4th. ROSSI scored in the 5th when MICKLOS doubled and in the 6th, rookie VIRGINIA O'BRIEN (Emerson, NJ) ripped a single driving in ANZALDI who doubled to lead off the inning.

ROSSI and MICKLOS hit 2-3 with one run and one RBI and one RBI respectively while MOORE went 2-4 with one run in the game.

Michelle Ippolitto (Jersey City, NJ) posted the lone hit of the game going 1-3 in the loss.

Game 2: PASTIGLIONE struck out three, pitching a complete game of her own, letting up one hit, striking out three and walking none in a 15-0 shutout victory over the Scarlet Raiders. She improves to 2-0 on the year. Tanya Spampinato (Cranford, NJ) recorded the loss in just over one inning striking out one and letting up five runs.

The Roadrunners scattered 15 runs over five innings in the victory posting 15 hits with only one error. After ½ an inning, Ramapo led 4-0 with runs scored by MOORE, ROSSI, RIZZO, and MICKLOS who reached on an error, ripped a double, drove a single, and shot one over the fence, respectively to get on base. MOORE hit her first homerun of her career in the 2nd and RIZZO blasted a second single driving in PASTIGLIONE to take a 6-0 lead after 1 ½. O'BRIEN added two runs in the game while CHRISTINA TRAPHAGEN (Toms River, NJ) recorded one and ROSSI added one more. Rookies COURTNEY GAMBETTA (Woodbridge, NJ) and TARA O'CALLAHAN (Barneget, NJ) each added a run while junior ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick, NJ) rounded out the scoring with one of her own.

MOORE hit 1-1 with two runs and one RBI while ROSSI hit 3-3 with two runs. MICKLOS hit 2-4 with one run and four RBI.

Kate Schrumpf (Upper Montclair, NJ) went 1-3 recording the only hit of the game for the Scarlet Raiders.

Ramapo will travel to St. Joe's Patchgue on Thursday, April 1st at 3:30 PM.
