Kissimme, FL: The Ramapo College softball team opened their 2004 season today in Kissimee, Florida where they faced Alleghery, posting a 6-0 shutout victory, and Geneva College adding a 2-1 win. Ramapo stands at 2-0 overall.
vs. Alleghery: The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after sophomore ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) drove a double to lead off, and later scored on a RBI double by rookie MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ). Alleghery's pitcher walked in a second run in the 3rd while ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) drove in ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick, NJ) and MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo,NY) hit a sac fly to center field to bring in MOORE who singled and walked respectively to get on base in the 4th inning. Ramapo added two more runs in the 6th when MICKLOS ripped a two-run single crossing ROSSI and PASTIGLIONE.
MOORE hit 2-3 with two runs while MICKLOS went 1-2 with three RBI in the game. CRUZ nailed one on three at bats while PASTIGLIONE hit 3-4 with one RBI and two runs leading Ramapo to their 6-0 shutout victory.
Senior pitcher JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) threw six innings earning her first win of the season recording five strikeouts facing 23 batters.
vs. Geneva: Geneva opened to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. With bases loaded, Dawn Sell (Mountville, PA) hit a single driving in Jessica Vojnovich (Midland, PA) who walked earlier in the inning. Ramapo answered back in the 3rd with rookie ROSSI doubling to score MOORE who walked to lead off the inning. ANZALDI ripped a double of her own driving in ROSSI taking a 2-1 lead. Rookie MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ) held Geneva posting one strikeout, letting up one earned run, and five hits in the victory.
ROSSI went 3-4 with one run and one RBI while ANZALDI, CRUZ, and MARINO hit 2-1, 2-1, and 3-1 respectively. MOORE scored one run in the game.
The Roadrunners will face St. Thomas and Otterbein tomorrow at 8:50 and 10:40 AM
