RAMAPO KNOCKS DOWN 64 IN NJAC WIN OVER RUTGERSNEWARK

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team wrapped up their home 2003-2004 season tonight with a 64-60 win over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark. Ramapo improves to 12-12 overall, 4-8 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Gold Division while Rutgers Newark falls to 4-21 overall, 1-12 in the conference.

Ramapo opened the night sinking four of four from behind the arc. Junior JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) opened the gates followed by senior STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ), sophomore VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ), and PILLARI once again for a 12-4 lead. Rutgers Newark closed the gap and took the lead at the start of the second half going on a 12-0 run to jump ahead 36-35 with a jumper by rookie Alisha McLean (Jersey City, NJ) at the 15:51 mark. Ramapo took control of the game with under a minute left jumping ahead by nine, wrapping up the game, 64-60 over Rutgers Newark.

CAPPADONA finished the night with 16 points while PILLARI netted 13 in the game shooting 5-9 from the field, 2-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore DANIELLE HUNT (Englewood, NJ) sunk 11 for the Roadrunners and KELLY BARTZ (Madison, NJ) dropped in nine. Senior guard KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) dished out a team-high five assists while rookie KEONA PALMER (Port Reading, NJ) pulled down a team-high four rebounds.

For the Scarlet Raiders, sophomore Christyal Anderson (Newark, NJ) recorded a double-double leading the team in points and rebounds with 21 and ten respectively. McLean followed netting 7-12 for 14 points while Ree Burton (Plainfield, NJ) and Trina Whitehead (Newark, NJ) recorded 12 and ten respectively. Mclean contributed a team-high four assists while grabbing nine rebounds in the loss.

Ramapo will play their final regular season game on Saturday, February 21st at Kean University, 2:00 PM.
