Janine Cappadona (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Red Bank HS) had a game-high 18 points and a career-high 10 steals as Ramapo downed Rutgers-Newark, 53-40, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for each team in The Golden Dome.
Cappadonahad six steals in the first half when the Roadrunners (3-0, NJAC 1-0) converted 22 Scarlet Raider turnovers into a 21-8 halftime edge. Sophomore guard
Keona Palmer (Port Reading, NJ/Woodbridge ) scored all eight of her points in the opening period to lead Ramapo.
Sophomore guard Nicole Torres (Fairview, NJ /Cliffside Park ), who hit four of five 3-point attempts to total 14 points, knocked down a trey to ignite an 8-0 Rutgers-Newark run which trimmed the Roadrunner lead to 33-27 with 10:18 left. But, that was as close as the Raiders would get as Cappadona had a pair of 3-point jumpers in an answering 7-0 run by Ramapo to push the lead to 40-27 with 7:47 left.

Alison Beller (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) had eight points and six rebounds for the Roadrunners.
Junior center ChristyalAnderson (Newark, NJ /University) and freshman forward EniFageyinbo (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) netted seven points apiece for Rutgers-Newark (1-1, NJAC 0-1).
