Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College women's basketball team played host to the Knights of Arcadia University in the opening round of the 2004-2005 Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. Ramapo defeated the Knights, 78-60 opening their season 1-0 overall, while Arcadia falls to 0-1. In game two of the day, the Lions of Lincoln University faced the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury earning the 59-53 victory.
The Roadrunners led by as many as 13 in the first half and spread the gap to 20 in the second shooting 40.5% from the field for the game. Junior VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ ) led the team recording 16 points shooting 7-12 from the field, 2-2 from behind the arc while senior JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ ) and rookie NATALIE ZACHARIAS (Howell, NJ ) each dropped in 13 points for the team. Rookie KATIE FEELEY (Scotch Plains, NJ ) recorded ten points and sophomore KEONA PALMER (Port Reading, NJ) dropped in six of her own. ALISON BELLER (Morris Plains, NJ) led the team with ten boards and VARGAS and CAPPADONA dished out five assists a piece.
Arcadia 's Ashley Vandiver (Philadelphia, PA ) led the Knights with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Caitlin Sparks (Harleysville, PA ) recorded a double-double of her own with 15 points and ten boards. Sophomore guard Lauren Bateman (Perkasie, PA) netted 17 points shooting 6-13 from the field, 4-8 from behind the three-point arc.
Ramapo shot 40.5% over Arcadia 's 36.5% from the field. The win goes down as the first collegiate victory for first year head coach Tiesha Grace.
In game two of the day, Lincoln University defeated SUNY Old Westbury, 59-53 earning a spot in the championship game tomorrow. Lincoln 's Rayshonna Hill (Brooklyn, NY ) led the team posting 13 points shooting 2-9 from the field, 9-17 from the line while Mary Rotimi (Philadelphia, PA ) recorded a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Junior Natasha Dynina (Russia ) led the Panthers posting 17 points with four rebounds and Christina Squillante (Levittstown) posted 12 points and 11 rebounds of her own. Akiesha Cumberbatch (New Rochelle ) dished out a team high three assists.
Lincoln will take on Ramapo tomorrow in the championship game at 3:00 PM and SUNY Old Westbury will face Arcadia at 1:00 PM.
