Mahwah, NJ: The Pioneers of William Paterson defeated the Red Hawks of Montclair State today in the finals of the NJAC Softball Tournament. William Paterson entered the finals in the losing bracket needing two victories over Montclair to take the crown. William Patterson dropped Montclair, 2-0 pushing the tournament into game seven. The two will face off tomorrow at noon.
The game was tied until the 4th inning when William Paterson posted two runs by Pam Migliaccio (Rockaway, NJ) and Morgan Dunlap (Jefferson Township, NJ). The two were driven in by Danielle Patlen's (Kinnelon, NJ) single after they reached on a fielder's choice and reached on an error respectively to get on base. Rookie Jennifer Scott (Mount Ephraim, NJ) pitched a no hitter with three walks and three strikeouts. Crystal Sweeney (Edison, NJ) recorded the loss with one strikeout and two walks in seven innings.
Liz Carroll (Dennisville, NJ) went 2-3, Dunlap hit 1-3 with one run, and Patlen posted two hits on three at bats with two RBI. William Paterson posted two runs on six hits with two errors while Montclair posted no runs with no hits with two errors.
William Paterson improves to 26-10-1 overall while Montclair falls to 33-8 overall.
