MONTCLAIR STATE BREAKS RAMAPO’S 27 GAME WIN STREAK

Mahwah, NJ: The Red Hawks of Montclair State dropped the Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 7-2, breaking their 27 game win streak today in Mahwah. The Red Hawks advance to the finals of the NJAC Softball Championship Tournament in the winner's bracket. Montclair improves to 33-7 overall while Ramapo falls to 32-4 overall.

Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when JACKIE MORRIS (Wanaque, NJ) reached on an error that scored LAURA GERMANO (Park Ridge, NJ) who singled to get on base. The team posted a second run in the 4th when JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) doubled to left field scoring GERMANO once again. GERMANO doubled to right center to get on base. After the game was halted due to inclement weather, Montclair's Stephanie Romanko (New Brunswick, NJ) crossed home plate when Kari McDonnell (Wrightstown, NJ) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Athanasia Totaro (Roseland, NJ) followed driving a grand slam to give Montclair a 5-2 edge over the Roadrunners. Totaro's homer scored Joelle Fata (Bloomfield, NJ), Diana Auteri (Lyndhurst, NJ), and McDonnell who singled, walked, and was hit by a pitch respectively to get on base. Dana Sprague (North Arlington, NJ) followed with a home run of her own jumping ahead 6-2. The team added one more run in the bottom of the 6th defeating the Roadrunners, 7-2.

Totaro went 1-4 with one run and four RBI while Fata posted one hit on two at bats with two runs and one RBI. Sprague hit 1-2 with one and one while Auteri added a run of her own. For the Roadrunners, GERMANO posted two hits on three at bats with two runs and ANZALDI hit 1-3 with one RBI.

ANZALDI recorded her first loss of the season dropping to 16-1, striking out one and walking eight in six innings pitched. Crystal Sweeney (Edison, NJ) earned the win with four strikeouts, and no walks improving to 19-4.

The Roadrunners will take on William Paterson tomorrow at noon while the Red Hawks move into the championship game that will be held tomorrow at 3:00 PM. The second game, if needed, will be played on Sunday, Time, TBA.
