RAMAPO FALLS 9-4 IN DAY TWO OF NCAA REGIONALS

Mahwah, NJ: Game 1: The Ramapo College Roadrunners fell to the Greyhounds of Moravian College, 9-4 in the NCAA East Region Tournament in Mahwah. Ramapo falls to 33-6 overall while Moravian improves to 32-8 overall and advance to the championship game in the winner's bracket tomorrow at 2:00 PM .

Ramapo took the lead in the 2nd with back-to-back home runs by rookie LISA RIZZO ( Dumont, NJ) and senior LAURA GERMANO ( Park Ridge , NJ). GERMANO blasted a second homer in the 4th with RIZZO on first after walking to get on base, taking a 4-0 lead. The Roadrunners held the Greyhounds until the bottom of the 5th when Melissa Soroka ( Newton, NJ) hit a sac fly to right field scoring Krissy Cianfichi ( Warrington, PA). Moravian rallied in the 6th posting eight runs on six hits with one error. Leah Holmes (Clarks Green, PA) posted a run on an error and with the bases loaded and one out, Heather Bortz (Allentown, PA) hit a “in the park” grand slam scoring Cianfichi, Megan Smith (Phillipsburg, PA), and Stephanie Eddinger (Allentown, PA). Janelle Brey ( Allentown, PA) doubled to left center, Soroka singled, and Jenn Hastings ( Pottstown, PA) singled to center field scoring Brey. Soroka scored on an error, Hastings crossed on a RBI single by Jessica Esposito (Madison, NJ) to end the inning and the game, 9-4 over the Roadrunners.

Bortz went 3-4 with one run and four RBI while Soroka hit 2-3 with one and one in the game. Cianfichi posted one hit on four at bats with two runs and Brey, Hastings, Holmes, Eddinger, and Smith each crossed the plate. Donna Weiner (East Hanover, NJ) earned the win with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings while TARA SOLAN (North Bergen, NJ) recorded the loss falling to 16-5 overall, striking out none and walking one. Weiner improves to 16-4.

For the Roadrunners, RIZZO hit 2-2 with two runs and one RBI while GERMANO went 2-2 with two runs and three RBI.

Game 2: Salisbury University posted three runs on seven hits with no errors dropping the Mules Muhlenberg College, 3-0 in Mahwah. Salisbury improves to 38-3-1 overall and advances to play Ramapo College tomorrow at noon. Muhlenberg falls to 16-21 overall posted no runs on four hits with three errors.

Salisburyposted all three runs in the top of the 3rd after senior Lisa Gentilella (Hamilton, NJ) ripped a single to left center with one out. Kate Garland (Hamilton, NJ) drove a single to left and Katie Mullinix (Westminster, MD) followed with a third single driving home Gentilella. Rosie Aley (Aquasco, MD) drove in Garland and Mullinix with a double to left. Rookie pitcher Lacey Lister (Denton, MD) held the shutout recording her 21st (21-2) win of the season. Lister struck out ten while walking one in seven innings. Kristina Cartolano (Staten Island, NY) recorded the loss with four strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.

Gentilella and Garland went 1-4 with one run while Mullinix posted one hit on four at bats with one and one in the game. Aley hit 1-3 with two RBI. For the Mules, Kelly Berg (Allentown, PA) hit 2-3 and Nicole Sarno (East Amwell, NJ) and Jackie Maser (Medford, NJ) each posted one hit on three at bats.
