Mahwah, NJ: Game one of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Championship ended after 11 innings when junior pitcher JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) of Ramapo College stepped to the plate driving in ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (South California, CA) who singled to center field to lead off the inning. The #1 seeded Ramapo College Roadrunners defeated the #4 seeded Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden, 2-1 improving to 32-3 overall, while Rutgers Camden falls to 26-8-1 overall.
Ramapo posted two runs on nine hits with five errors while Rutgers Camden recorded one run on six hits with no errors. Rutgers Camden took a 1-0 lead in the 6th when sophomore Becky Johnson (Bridgeton, NJ) doubled to left field and was driven in by a single to center by rookie Dana Jennings (Burlington, NJ). Ramapo answered back with a run in the bottom of the 6th. Senior KELLY KERNAN (San Diego, CA) hit a RBI double scoring LAURAN DATHE (Cedar Knolls, NJ) who walked to lead off the inning. Ramapo took the game in the 11th with the RBI single by ANZALDI.
ANZALDI went 2-3 in the game with one RBI while KERNAN posted two hits on four at bats with one RBI of her own. PASTIGLIONE hit 2-4 with one run and DATHE went 0-3 with one walk and one run.
For Rutgers Camden, Jennings hit 2-5 with one RBI and Johnson hit 1-5 with one run in the game. Celeste Chinappi (Bellmawr, NJ) and Jenn Coleman (Peckville, PA) posted one and two hits respectively on five at bats.
Senior pitcher TARA SOLAN (North Bergen, NJ) earned the win improving to 15-3, striking out four and walking four, giving up one hit and no runs in 5 2/3 innings. Sarah O'Malley (Westmont, NJ) recorded the loss with five strikeouts and three walks in 10 2/3 innings. O'Malley falls to 14-2.
Ramapo will face the winner of #2 seeded William Paterson and #3 seeded Montclair State tomorrow at 1:30 PM while Rutgers Camden will take on the losing team at 11:00 AM.
