Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners played host to the Golden Eagles of St. Joe's Patchogue today at the Athletic Center in their 2003 home opener. Ramapo improves to 9-3 overall while St. Joe's falls to 7-9 overall.
GAME 1: Ramapo took the lead in the 2nd inning with a lead off home run by junior MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY). Senior LAURA GERMANO (Park Ridge, NJ) posted the second run of the game in the bottom of the 6th after hitting a lead off double. ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick, NJ) drove in GERMANO with a sacrifice fly to left field.
MICKLOS hit 1-2 with one run and one RBI while GERMANO went 3-3 with one run. SHELLIE GUIDER (Jefferson, NJ) and pitcher JAMIE ANZALDI (Clifton, NJ) went 1-3 in the game. Eileen Bracciodieta (Farmingville, NY) posted the lone hit for St. Joe's hitting 1-3.
ANZALDI posted the win improving to 6-0 with nine strikeouts and three walks letting up one hit in seven innings pitched.
GAME 2: Ramapo broke away with an early 3-0 lead in the 1st. ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (South California, CA) and KELLY KERNAN (San Diego, CA) posted runs off a double by rookie LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ) after walking and singling respectively to get on base. RIZZO added the third run of the inning from GERMANO's RBI single. Ramapo exploded in the 4th adding four more runs. JACKIE MORRIS (Wanaque, NJ) and CRUZ singled to lead off and ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) reached on an error scoring MORRIS. CRUZ scored on a passed ball, and PASTIGLIONE drove in MOORE. KERNAN homered to give Ramapo a 7-0 lead.
KERNAN led the team hitting 2-3 with two runs, one RBI, with one home run and GERMANO went 2-2 in the game. MORRIS hit 1-2 with one run while MOORE posted one hit off two at bats with one run.
Ramapo will travel to Rutgers Newark for their first conference match-up at 3:00 PM.
