Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team advances to the NCAA "Elite 8" defeating NJAC rival Montclair State, 89-80 at Timken Gymnasium in Wooster, Ohio. The Roadrunners improve their overall record to 26-3, while the Red Hawks fall to 23-6 ending their 2003 season.
Montclair led by as many as nine in the second half. Ramapo answered with a 9-0 run tying the game 73-73 with a lay up by CHARLES RANSON (Jersey City, NJ) with 5:40 left in the game. Montclair jumped ahead by two, but Ramapo took control again on a 10-0 run dropping the Red Hawks, 89-80.
Ramapo out shot Montclair State 51% to 46% from the floor.
For Ramapo, RANSOM scored a team-high 30 points, while KEVIN STOKES (Wycoff, NJ) and JARED MILLIGAN (Ringwood, NJ) each contributed 13 points a piece. STOKES also pulled down seven rebounds. TENNYSON WHITTED (Jersey City, NJ) dished out ten assists and added in seven points while RASHEEN GADSEN (Jersey City, NJ) had nine boards and eight points on the night.
For Montclair, Ben Martinez (Scotch Plains, NJ) recorded 24 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Abraham Johnson (Newark, NJ) and Pierre Mitchell (Newark, NJ) had 15 and 13 points respectively.
Ramapo faces the College of Wooster tomorrow, Saturday, March 15th at 7:00 PM.
