Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team faced the Cougars of Kean University today at the Athletic Center. Ramapo defeated Kean 64-60, giving the Cougars their first NJAC loss and breaking a 12 game win streak. The Roadrunners improve to 11-11 overall and 6-9 in the NJAC, while Kean falls to 19-3 overall, 14-1 in the conference.
The teams were tied with 2:23 left in the game, when Ramapo's VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ) sunk a three point shot to pull ahead 59-56. CARLA COLUCCI (Emerson, NJ), STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ), and VARGAS combined for five points from the line to seal the game 64-60.
For the Roadrunners, senior KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) fueled the offense with 20 points, while VARGAS had 14 of her own. PILLARI chipped in ten points, seven assists, and pulled down 11 boards. While COLUCCI added nine points and two steals.
For Kean, Kellie Rice (Willingboro, NJ) had a team high 21 points and four assists. Shervon James (Clifton, NJ) added in eight points and 13 rebounds. While Janae Brumby (Trenton, NJ) and Crystal Gadsden (Queens, NY) added in nine and eight points respectively.
The Roadrunners will travel to Rutgers Camden on Saturday, February 15th at 1:00 PM.
