Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team faced the Hawks of Hunter College today at the Athletic Center and recorded their third win of the season, 76-72 in overtime. Ramapo now stands at 3-0 overall while the Hunter posts their first loss of the season dropping to 3-1 overall.
The Roadrunners were behind by as many as 12 in regulation and came back to tie the game with 14 seconds on the clock when rookie VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ) hit two free throws to tie the game. Hunter's Jen Czirr (Staten Island, NY) missed a lay-up with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Ramapo took the lead with 59 seconds left, 72-70 when senior MELINDA DIODONET (Bogota, NJ) netted two. The Roadrunners never looked back dropping the Hawks, 76-72.
Ramapo was led by JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) with 19 points, three assists, and three boards while VARGAS added 16 points and nine boards of her own. KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) and STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ) chipped in ten and eight points respectively while DIODONET added seven. CARLA COLUCCI (Emerson, NJ) added four assists and six points in the match-up. The Roadrunners shot 38% from the floor behind Hunter's 48%.
For the Hawks, Topaz Robbins (Brooklyn, NY) led the way with 17 points and nine boards while Tania Blanco (Bronx, NY) pulled down 19 total boards. Jan Agosto (Brooklyn, NY) and Jezel Rodriguez (Bronx, NY) netted 14 and 12 points respectively while Vana Loukissas (Flushing, NY) dished out five assists.
The Roadrunners will travel to Lehman on Monday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM.
