Susie Matsutani

    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Dr. Susie Matsutani, enters her 11th year as assistant coach at Ramapo College and her 17th season overall after graduating in 2008 from New Jersey City University. 
 
She earned a degree in biology, before completing her doctorate in physical therapy from Dominican College (NY) in 2011. She currently works in two different physical therapy offices in Freehold NJ and Staten Island NY.  Her softball experience is extensive as a former player, and as an assistant coach, and her knowledge of the sport will be a valuable asset to the Ramapo program.

Following the success of the 2017 Ramapo season the coaching staff was named NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of Year. The 2017 squad (32-11) won the NJAC regular season title along with a NCAA Regional Championship where they went 3-0 and earned the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Super Regional Round.
 
Coach Matsutani was one of the top all-around softball players in New Jersey City University history, playing for four years from 2005-2008, under the direction of then head coach, Bridgette Quimpo.  A two-year team captain, Coach Matsutani was the first NJCU softball player to ever be voted as an Academic All-District selection when she was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District II College Division Third-Team as an infielder for her excellence in both athletics and academics. She was a four-time Dean’s List recipient in eight semesters at NJCU.
 
Matsutani concluded her career as NJCU’s all-time leader in triples (14), assists (395) and tied for first in games played and started (143) and double plays turned (25). She earned numerous athletic and academic honors including 2008 NJAC Second Team All-Conference and 2008 First Team All-NJAC Academic.
 
Coach Matsutani is a native of Gallup, New Mexico.
