Joe Lee enters his fourth year as a volunteer coach at Ramapo College, focusing on the throwing events.
Under the direction of Coach Lee, Dillon Rodgers recently earned All-America honors in the Javelin at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, with a third place finish and school record mark of 218’ 11”. Rodgers was also named Field Athlete of the Year for his performance at the NJAC Outdoor Championships. Coach Lee also coached Teresa Kirkpatrick to her first NCAA Championship appearance in 2012.
Five student-athletes have achieved individual NJAC titles during Coach Lee’s tenure, with three of them taking place during the 2011-2012 season. Taylor Furman won the Women’s Weight Throw and the Discus.
Coach Lee comes to Ramapo with 12 years of experience at Wood-Ridge High School in Bergen County New Jersey, while also operating JavelinLessons.com since 2002. During his high school coaching tenure, Wood-Ridge has won their program's first league championship in boys and girls (2), while clinching a boys Bergen County Relays title.
He has coached over 60 State Sectional medalists which include 22 champions breaking seven State Sectional records. Coach Lee has had 13 State Group champions and has coached over 40 Bergen County Meet of Champions medalists, including six of the last seven boys javelin champions and the last three girls champions.
At the State Meet of Champions, his throwers have earned more than 20 medals, 17 coming from the javelin with 11 top four finishers. Coach Lee has coached the last three out of four State Meet of Champions winners and has broken two state records.
In the collegiate ranks, his high school athletes have gone onto place in the Pac-10 (Arizona State), Big-10 (Michigan, Penn State), SEC (South Carolina), ACC (North Carolina) Big East (Rutgers), Ivy League (Brown, Dartmouth) Patriot League (Bucknell) and Atlantic-10 (Temple).
