Coach Vilan Kvyat enters his first season on the Ramapo men’s volleyball coaching staff. Coach Kvyat studied and played at Rutgers University, where the team won a pair of division titles as well as a conference championship. They also finished in the Top 10 in the nation twice and Top 15 once.
Kvyat competed in the National 9-man Volleyball Championships in Toronto, Canada in 2011 where they fell short in the second round of the Silver Bracket. He also competed in the 2013 Maccabiah World Games and the 2014 Scotland Open, winning the Gold Medal in Scotland.
A standout player at Fair Lawn High School, he left as the team's top blocker while he helped win a league championship, two county championships, and a state sectional championship. He was the 2009 Bergen County Tournament MVP and led the Super Six Showcase in total blocks.
This past fall he was the assistant coach at St. Mary High School in Rutherford, NJ, where he helped turn around the program from a 1-18 record the previous year to 7-14 overall. The team also produced three all-conference selections.
Coach Kvyat is a social studies teacher at St. Mary High School after graduating with honors from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in history and political science in 2014. He received his master's degree in social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2015, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Coach Kvyat continues to compete in GEVA and USAV tournaments year round.
