Coach Don Vanderbeck enters his 20th season at the helm of the Roadrunner men's volleyball program and holds an impressive overall record of 409-244, standing as the winningest coach in Ramapo's history. He has led his team to 184 conference victories, winning the conference championship in 1995 and 1996, and earning the title of regular season champions in 2009.
The Roadrunners earned a bid to 14 NECVA Conference Championship Tournaments and made eight appareances in the ECAC Championships, winning the championship title in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2012. Last season (2012), Ramapo placed second overall in the newly formed Skyline Conference, and fell short in the finals of the post-season tournament to earn a bid to the first ever NCAA Championships in the sport of men's volleyball.
Vanderbeck was named 2009 Metro Division Coach of the Year for leading his team to the regular season champions title and a perfect 9-0 record in conference play. The Roadrunners earned a #3 seed in the 2009 NECVA Championship Tournament going 1-1 that weekend, before hosting the 2009 Division III Molten Championship Tournament at the Bradley Center, making the program’s first appearance in the Final Four tournament. He was named Metro Conference Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996 and in 2001, he was named Ramapo College Coach of the Year. In 2006, Coach Vanderbeck recorded his 254th win at Ramapo, breaking the old record of 253. That season, he was again named Ramapo Coach of the Year for his efforts in 2006.
In 2008, Vanderbeck led the Roadrunners to a #5 seed in the NECVA Tournament. After defeating the #12 seeded Gulls of Endicott College, 3-0, the Roadrunners downed NECVA rival, Stevens Institute, seeded #4, in a thrilling five-set match, 3-2. The Roadrunners dropped their final match of the season to the #1 seed, Vassar, wrapping up the season at 29-6 overall. The Roadrunners recorded a 7-2 conference record that year.
Vanderbeck has also coached recreational volleyball with the State Line Volleyball Club in Oakland, NJ for nine years. He is a member of the AVCA, and both a player and referee registered with PAVO.
He resides in River Edge, NJ with his wife Megan and their two sons, Kyle and Dylan.
