Richard Carlin

Coach Richard Carlin, begins his 8th year as an assistant coach on Coach Jackson’s staff. He is responsible for coaching the jumping events, and also assists with academic advisement and recruiting.

Coach Carlin has coached two All-Americans, and was instrumental in aiding Todd Lowber in his successful quest as Ramapo College’s first NCAA DIII National High Jump Champion in 2006.  Lowber moved on to the NFL and had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins.  His playing career is highlighted by a Super Bowl win in 2007 (Giants).  Valdir Mondesir placed 5th overall in the High Jump at the 2010 Outdoor NCAA Championships, also under the direction of Coach Carlin.

The Roadrunners' jumpers have had much success in the jump events in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).  There have been eight individual NJAC champions who have worked with Carlin, who primarily works with all males in the aforementioned event areas.  He also has three ECAC Champions to his credit.

Coach Carlin has a BA in English and a Master’s in Counseling; he has 17 years of experience as a NYC English teacher and 25 years as a guidance counselor. Before retiring he was employed as a guidance counselor at the East Orange Campus and Montclair high schools.

In retirement, he serves as the Armory Prep College Advisor for the Armory Track and Field Center, as well as the long and triple jump specialist for the high school students where he has developed NYS state and national champions. It is his responsibility to help place student athletes in both two-year and four-year institutions.

Carlin has earned both a USA Track and Field Level I Coaching Certificate and a US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Jumps Specialist Certificate. He is fully certified to coach sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws and multi-events.

Coach Carlin resides in Hillsdale, NJ.
