Returning for his fifth year, Assistant Coach Ochieng brings a great deal of coaching experience to add to Head Coach LaFronz’s field hockey program.
Ochieng graduated from Nairobi University , Kenya in 1990 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He then continued his academic career gaining an M.E. and then his Ph.D.(ABD) in Civil Engineering in 2002.
As a player Ochieng competed at the highest level. He competed for the Kenyan National Team in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and has played in tournaments in the U.K, India and Pakistan .
Ochieng’s coaching resume is just as impressive. He started in 1992 coaching the Sliders Ladies Hockey Club taking them to the Tour de Paris Hockey Tournament and the African Continental Club championships. He was also the trainer for the Mens Kenyan Armed Forces Team and in 1997 was the Head Coach for Kenya ’s Men’s National U21 team before becoming a coach for the Full National Team from 1998-2003. Most recently, Coach Ochieng led his U19 club team to a gold medal at the National Hockey Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Coach Ochieng currently resides in Devon, PA and plays with the Big Apple Flickers in New York City.
