Josh Epstein enters his sixth year as assistant coach, and third overseeing the Roadrunner pitching staff. Epstein also coordinates the recruiting for the Roadrunner baseball program.
The 2012 Roadrunner pitching staff built off their success on the mound from the previous season. Overall the staff finished 35-15 with a 3.63 ERA, and a .259 batting average against. Ramapo was ranked nationally in many categories, including walks per nine innings, 2.81 (34th), and strikeout to walk ratio of 2.52 (20th). A pair of Roadrunners earned NJAC All-Conference and All-NJCBA awards for their efforts. PJ Cerreto (7-2, 2.77 ERA) earned NJAC Second Team All-Conference and NJCBA All-State First Team awards, while fellow Travis Zilg (7-3, two saves, 2.66 ERA) earned NJAC Honorable Mention All-Conference and NJCBA All-State Third Team honors. NJAC Pitchers of the Week awards went out to three different Roadrunners: Zilg, Frank Baldini, and Dan LaRocca, while Mark Doyle earned Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors during the 2012 season.
During the 2011 season, the staff boasted a 30-14 record. The Ramapo staff finished with a team ERA of 3.44, good for 36th in the country, and down from 5.76 in 2010. Also, the Roadrunner arms gave up just a hair over eight hits per game, good for 15th nationally. Travis Zilg (6-3, 2.93 ERA) earned NJAC Second Team All-Conference and All-NJCBA Second Team honors. PJ Cerreto (6-2, 2.15 ERA) earned All-NJCBA 3rd Team honors.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Epstein graduated from Ramapo in 2006 with a degree in business, concentration in marketing. He was a four-year member of the Ramapo team being named captain prior to his senior year. Following the 2005 season, he received honors such as team Most Improved Player, and was named to the Jewish Sports Review All America Team. He served as the President of Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2005-2006 academic year, and won the school's SAAC Award in May 2006.
In April of 2007, the Petach Tikva Pioneers of the Israel Baseball League selected Epstein 11th overall in the inaugural IBL draft. He spent the season playing under former Major League pitcher Ken Holtzman, and former New York Yankee coach Tony Ferrara.
Coach Epstein currently resides in Mahwah, NJ.
