Madison, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team snapped FDU-Florham's six-game win streak today as the Roadrunners defeated the Devils, 14-4. The Roadrunners remain undefeated at 4-0 overall while the Devils stand at 6-1 on the year.
The Roadrunners put five runs on the board after two innings of play.
Zach Novakowski drove home Julian Schults with an RBI single in the first inning before
Eric Knapp added two runs with a hard hit single up the middle which brought home both
Jack Tallent and Novakowski, 3-0. In the second,
Will Egner reached on an error to lead off the inning and later scored on another error.
Casey Chiola was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on an error and later stole home to take a 5-0 lead. FDU-Florham added one run in the third before Ramapo added two in the fourth. Schultz drove home Chiola with an RBI single to right field while Schultz was able to race home on a passed ball during Tallent walk, 7-1. Bradon Tauber and Schultz led off the sixth inning with back-to-back singles before Tallent worked a walk. Novakowski then took the second pitch he saw and connected on his first home run of the season, a grand slam, to extend the Roadrunner lead, 11-1. Later in the inning, Knapp plated
Dan Maglio with an RBI ground out, 12-1. The Devils added three runs in the bottom of the seventh while Ramapo added two more runs in the top of the ninth. Chiola walked to lead off the inning before
James Zwolinski drove him home with an RBI double.
Derek Brand bounced into an RBI ground out as
Colin Kassai scored the final run for Ramapo, 14-4.
Ramapo belted out 14 hits in the game as Schultz, Zwolinski, Novakowski, Knapp each collected two hits each. Novakowski led the team with five RBI while Knapp tallied three.
Thomas Schlaline (1-0) earned his first career win on the mound as he struck out three, walked none and surrendered six hits and one run over six innings of work. Carlo Lalomia Jr worked a scoreless 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts and no walks while
Greg Guzman added a scoreless ninth on the mound.
The Roadrunners will now take on Amherst College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday March, 8th. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12pm at Trinity College in Harford, CT at Murren Family Field/DiBenedetto Stadium.
