Purchase, NY: The Ramapo College baseball team won their fourth straight today in an 11-3 road victory over Manhattanville University. The Roadrunners move to 11-5 overall while the Valiants, who received votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, move to 12-3 overall.
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the first inning when
Zach Novakowski belted his second home run of the season, a three-run shot over the center field wall for the quick 3-0 lead. Manhattanville scored one unearned run in the bottom half of the inning before Ramapo added one run in the second and third innings for a 5-1 lead. The Roadrunners broke open the game with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to push the score, 9-1.
Braden Schappert singled through the left side of the infield and stole second base before later scoring on an infield error, 6-1. Dustin McGuiness drove in
Zach Barbash with an RBI single down the left field line before
Julian Schultz picked up an RBI with a single of his own, 8-1. Jack Talent then beat out an infield single to third base which allowed
Julian Caruso to score, 9-1. Manhattanville scored one in the bottom of the fifth while each team added a single run in the sixth inning as Ramapo held a 10-3 lead. The Roadrunners tallied their final run of the game in the top of the eighth inning when
Brandon Tauber laced a single to right field as Novakowski came around to score, 11-3.
Ramapo collected 14 hits in the game as they were led by Tauber who finished 3-5 with one RBI. Schultz, Tallent, Schappert and Barbash each collected two in the game. Novakwoski and McGuiness led the way, each driving in three RBI.
Eldon Lempa (1-0) earned his first collegiate win of his career for the Roadrunners as he spun a four-hitter over five innings of work. He struck out two, walked three and let up just two runs (one earned).Â
Cody Quagliato worked three innings in relief letting up just two hits and striking out three.
Hunter Sabbers pitched the ninth, surrendering just one hit while striking out one.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, March 28th when they open up NJAC play on the road at #11/13 Rowan University. The first pitch of game one is set for 11:30 AM.Â
