Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team split a pair of seven inning games against the University of Southern Maine today at the Russ Matt invitational. The Huskies move to 6-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 7-3 overall.
Game #1: Southern Maine 7, Ramapo 0 | Seven innings
The Huskies scored two in the bottom of the first inning while they held Ramapo scoreless the remainder of the game. The team added three runs in the third and two in the sixth to extend the lead, 7-0. A solid pitching performance from Gabe Gilford (1-0) lifted the Huskies to the game one victory. He worked six innings with 11 strikeouts and four walks while he let up just one hit. Peter Kebinsky came in from shortstop to work the final inning for Southern Maine as he struck out two and let up just one hit.
For the Roadrunners,
John Hacker (1-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out five, walked four and surrendered five hits and five runs (four earned).
Julian Schultz and
James Zwolinski each collected a hit for the Roadrunners.
Game #2: Ramapo 4, Southern Maine 1 | Seven innings
Michael Zalinkanskas (3-0) worked out of a jam in the top of the first inning for the Roadrunners on the mound to hold the Huskies scoreless. He fired 5.2 innings with 10 strikeouts and seven walks while he scattered just two hits and let up one run. Carlo Lalomia, Jr. worked the final 1.1 innings to earn his second save of the season as he struck out the side in the seventh to preserve the win for Ramapo.
In the bottom of the third inning with runners on second and third,
Zach Novakowski beat out an infield single to first base which allowed both
Julian Caruso and
Julian Schultz to score, 2-0. Southern Maine scratched a run across in the sixth to cut the Ramapo lead in half before the Roadrunners added two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Schultz launched a double to the right field fence which plated pinch-runner
Colin Kassai and
Braden Schappert to push the score, 4-1. Caruso and Schultz each led the team with two hits while Schultz and Novakowski each collected two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, March 19th when they take on Eastern Connecticut State University at 9:30am.
