Albany, NY: The Russell Sage field hockey team slipped past Ramapo College tonight in non-conference action, 3-2. The Gators move to 1-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-2 overall.
Victoria Chavez got the Roadrunners on the board with the first goal of the game in the 10th minute of action off a pass from
Ana Plaia. Early in the second quarter,
Ana Plaia scored in the 19th minute of action to put Ramapo up 2-0. The Gators got on the board in the second quarter with a goal from Catherine Newkirk in the 30th minute of action before she tied the game with her second goal in the third quarter, 2-2. In the 54th minute of play in the fourth, the Gators scored the game-winner as Skyler Van Wormer hit the back of the cage for a 3-2 lead. The score would hold as Sage earned the one-goal victory.
The Roadrunners edged the Gators in shots on goal 8-7 while Ramapo recorded 10 penalty corners in the game to Sage's one.
Emily Getz tallied four saves in goal for the Roadrunners while Olivia Brand posted six saves in the net for the Gators.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13th when they host New Paltz in non-conference action at the Athletic Center at 11:00 AM.
