Salisbury, MD: The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team held on in the top of the ninth for a 4-3 victory over Ramapo College in an elimination game at the NCAA Salisbury Regional. The Yellow Jackets (32-14) advance to the regional championship game and will take on host Salisbury tomorrow at 11am. The Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 28-16 overall record.
Baldwin Wallace scored one run in four separate innings to take a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning. In the eighth, Ramapo got on the board with one run when they connected on back-to-back doubles from
Julian Caruso and
Zach Novakowski. The Roadrunners would plate two runs in the ninth before the Yellow Jackets got out of a big jam with two outs.
Shaun Piotrowski led off with a single before moving to second on an infield ground out.
Brandon Tauber belted an RBI double to left-center to plate Piotrowski to cut the lead in half. With two outs,
Robert Klawans laced a double to the left-center field gap as Tauber came around to score to come within one with the tying run on second base. Caruso worked a walk before a pitching change for the Yellow Jackets. Tyler Vogel would induce a strikeout to end the Ramapo threat as Baldwin Wallaced earned the 4-3 win.
John Higgins led the way at the plate for the Roadrunners finishing 2-4 at the plate.
Jake Depetris (4-3) took the loss on the mound as he struck out four, walked five and let up five hits and three runs (two earned).
Nick Danbrowney worked the final 2.2 innings with one strikeout, one walk while he surrendered three hits and one run.
