Wayne, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated William Paterson University to sweep the home-and-home series with a 5-3 victory on the road. The Roadrunners push their win streak to six games as they improve to 20-7 overall and 5-3 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 16-11 and 1-7 in the league.
The Roadrunners saw themselves down 3-0 after two innings of play before Ramapo tied the game in the top of the third.
Robert Klawans walked and stole second before Dominic Ciani drove him in with a double down the right-field line.
Zach Novakowski walked before
Jesse Swartout drove in Ciani with an RBI single and advanced to second on a play at the plate.
John Higgins reached on a fielding error which allowed Swartout to advance to third.
Eric Knapp then drove in the game-tying run with a sac fly to right field as Swartout touched home plate, 3-3. In the top of the fourth,
Julian Caruso singled and stole second before later moving to third on a wild pitch. Novakowski then plated Caruso with an RBI fielder's choice, 4-3. The Roadrunners tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when
Matt Lalomia lifted a sac fly to center field which allowed Swartout to score, 5-3. Swartout reached on a double down the left-field line earlier in the inning.
Ramapo starting pitcher
Nick Danbrowney (5-2) and reliever
Ryan Lasko did not let up a hit following the first inning when WPU scored their three runs. Danbrowney let up just two hits in seven complete innings while he struck out six including his 200th of his career. He is the third Roadrunner in program history to reach this mark. Lasko collected his sixth save of the season with one strikeout and one walk while he did not surrender a hit in the final two innings of action. Ciani, Swartout, Higgins, and Caruso all recorded two hits for the Roadrunners.
