Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Manhattanville University today at Jeff Maund Field in non-conference action, 10-5. The Roadrunners move to 14-6 overall while the Valiants drop to 12-8 on the year.
Ramapo's offense was on fire this afternoon as they belted out 15 hits in the game including three straight triples in the second inning to score the team's first two runs. Manhattanville scratched one run across in the top of the second before the Roadrunners took the lead for good in the bottom half. The Roadrunners recorded back-to-back-to-back triples to get on the board with two runs, 2-1.
Jesse Swartout hit one to right field,
John Higgins laced a one down the right field line while Matt Lalomoia connected on a triple to left-center field.
Robert Klawans plated Lalomia with an RBI ground out.
Julian Caruso put down a bunt single before he stole second base. Dominic Ciani would reach on an error which allowed
Eric Knapp to score for a 4-1 lead. Knapp reached base earlier in the inning with a double to right field.
The Valiants scored one run in the top of the fourth before Ramapo added three runs in the fifth. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth,
Zach Novakowski hit a double before
Jesse Swartout was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Each moved up one base on a wild pitch before
John Higgins hit a two out double to left field to plate both runs, 6-2.
Matt Lalomia drove in Higgins with an RBI single to left field, 7-2. Ramapo added one in the seventh as Lalomia drove in Novakowski with another RBI single, 8-2. Each team plated runs in the eighth inning as Ryan Osso recorded an RBI single with the bases loaded before Ramapo got out of the two-out jam with a ground out to end the inning. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Novakowski doubled home
Melvin Matias to extend the lead, 10-3. In the top of the ninth the Valiants plated two more runs. Mike Scozzafazza scored on a wild pitch before Vince Delgado scored on an RBI ground out. Ramapo relief pitcher
Cody Quagliato induced a strikeout looking to end the game for the 10-5 Roadrunner victory.
Michael Zalinkanskas (1-0) earned the win for the Roadrunners on the mound this afternoon in his first career start. He struck out six, walked just two and surrendered five hits over three complete innings of work. Ramapo connected on nine extra base hits in today's game while Novakowski posted three doubles. Novakowski and Lalomia each finished 3-4 while Bailey and Higgins each collected two hits while Higgins added two runs scored and three RBI.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 3rd when they host Rutgers-Newark University for the first home-and-home NJAC series of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm.
