Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team held on for a 70-63 win tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 13-4 overall and 7-2 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights move to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in the league.
Ramapo, who led the entire game, held a 29-5 lead with just seven minutes remaining in the first half before NJCU shrunk the lead to just eight points with less than a minute remaining. The two teams traded baskets in the final seconds as Ramapo went into the locker room up six, 35-29. NJCU battled in the second half and kept the Roadrunner's lead within sight before Ramapo stretched it back out to eight on a jumper from
Jordan Myers with 9:13 on the clock, 54-46. With less than six minutes on the clock the Roadrunners held a five-point lead, 58-53 on a free throw from Myers before
Shane Rooney converted a pair for a seven-point lead with 4:51 remaining. NJCU cut the lead to four twice over the next minute before Ramapo went on a mini 5-0 run for their largest lead in the second half with 2:48 remaining, 66-57. Ramapo's final points of the game came from
Peter Gorman who sank a deep three-pointer as NJCU posted the final points of the game on a jumper from Avante Gilbert as time expired.
Gorman led the Roadrunners with 25 points including three three-pointers while he added two steals, one assists and four rebounds. Myers added 18 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals while Rooney posted 13 points and three rebounds.
Anthony Corbo contributed with eight rebounds while
Justin Bladen collected nine points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. The team shot 48% (24-50) from the floor, 40% (4-10) from the three-point line and 75% (18-24) from the free throw line. Ramapo tallied 34 points in the paint and 13 points off NJCU's 14 turnovers.
For the Gothic Knights, Isaiah Johnson-Williams led the way with 16 points including three three-pounds while Avante Gilbert and Bakhi Rogers-Robinson each scored 14 points. Raymond Ezike pulled down a team high seven rebounds while Rogers-Robinson and Jaheim Lewis each collected six rebounds in the game. NJCU shot 32% (20-62) from the field, 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 72% (18-25) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden University in a NJAC game at 3:00 PM.
