Baltimore, MD: The #2 Arcadia University baseball team defeated #3 Ramapo College, 10-3, in the NCAA Baltimore Regional this evening. The Roadrunners wrapped up the season with a 29-16 overall record. The Knights, who are ranked #20 in the most recent NCAA D3 Top 25 poll, improve to 33-13 overall and advance to the regional final on Sunday afternoon.
Each team scored one run in the first inning. Arcadia scored first with a home run in the top of the first before Ramapo came back with an RBI triple in the bottom half of the inning.
Jack Tallent led off with a hard hit single down the left field line before
John Higgins drove him in with an RBI triple, 1-1. In the top of the second the Knights added three runs on three hits for a 4-1 lead before adding one run in the third, 5-1. The Roadrunners put up two runs in the bottom of the third inning when Tallent launched his first career home run over the right field wall.
Christian Alonso to score on the play to cut the Knights lead, 3-5. The Knights got back three runs in the fourth to extend their lead, 8-3. Arcadia held the Roadrunners to just one hit in the final six innings of action when
Dominick Ciani connected on an infield single in the top of the ninth.
Hunter Curley (5-1) struck out four, walked four and surrendered three hits and three runs in seven complete innings of work. Gabe Marshall worked the final two innings with four strikeouts and only letting up one hit. Anthony Bruno and Emilio Pallante each collected two hits and one RBI for the Knights.
For the Roadrunners, Tallent finished 2-4 with two RBI.
Nick Danbrowney (4-4) started on the mound and struck out three, walked two and surrendered seven hits and eight runs (seven earned) in 3.2 innings of work.
Billy Scanlon pitched the next 3.1 innings of relief with five strikeouts and two walks while surrendering two hits and two runs (one earned).
Gerard Chiricolo pitched the final two innings for the Roadrunners without letting up a hit or run.
