Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team earned a 6-3 win over Rutgers-Newark University today in NJAC action. The Roadrunners move to 12-8 overall, 2-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders move to 15-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Ramapo scored three runs in the top of the first inning before Rutgers-Newark added on in the bottom half and one in the second to make it a one-run game. The Roadrunners added two in the sixth and one in the ninth while the Scarlet Raiders tacked one in in the bottom of the ninth before Ramapo got out of a two-out jam to secure the win.
Jack Tallent and
Matt Lalomia plated the first two runs with RBI singles before Tallent was able to score later in the inning during Lalomia's steal at second base, 3-0. In the sixth, Ramapo added a run on a
Christian Alonso single which plated Lalomia before
Tyler Guadagno put down a sac bunt RBI which allowed
Jesse Swartout to score for a 5-2 lead. In the top of the ninth,
Dominick Ciani came around to score on Tallent's RBI single to extend the lead, 6-2.
Ciani earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. In six innings pitched he struck out four, walked one and surrendered just four hits aand two runs (one earned).
Billy Scanlon worked two innings and let up no hits and no runs with four strikeouts. Matt Ivaanicki went 2/3 in the ninth and surrendered two hits and one run while
Will Paoli earned the save in relief as he induced a flyout to end the game.
The Roadrunners belted out 13 hits in the game as they were led by
John Higgins who finished 3-5 at the plate while Ciani,
Zack Bailey, Tallent (two RBI), and Lalomia all collected two hits each.
Ramapo and Rutgers-Newark will face off tomorrow once again in Newark, NJ with the Roadrunners serving as the home team. The game is set to begin at 3:30 PM.
