Mahwah, NJ: The College of New Jersey baseball team defeated Ramapo College, 13-5, to wrap up the NJAC home-and-home series. The Lions move to 19-15 overall, 7-9 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 23-13 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
TCNJ put up nine runs in the first three innings of action before Ramapo got on the board with four in the bottom of the third.
John Higgins laced a two-RBI double down the right field line which plated
Tyler Guadagno and
Jack Tallent.
Matt Lalomia then drove in two of his own with a line drive single to left field as
Zack Bailey and Higgins came around to score. The Lions added three more to their total in the sixth while Ramapo added one in the seventh. Lalomia drove in Tallent with a sac fly before TCNJ got out of a one out jam with a strikeout and ground out to end the inning. TCNJ picked up their final run of the game with an RBI groundout in the 9th to extend the lead, 13-4.
For TCNJ, starter Dan Merkel (4-3) struck out five, walked five and let up five runs and seven hits in six innings of work. Jack O'Shea struck out one, walked one and let up just two hits in three relief innings as he earned the three-inning save. Mike LaGravenis and Miachael Schumacher each collected three hits in the game to lead the Lions while LaGravenis posted four RBI.
Jack Martin (5-1) started on the mound for Ramapo in the loss where he struck out four, walked four and surrendered eight hits and nine runs (four earned). Tallent finished 3-4 with two runs scored for the Roadrunners while Higgins (2 RBI) and Lalomia (3 RBI) each finished 2-4.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at home against Stockton University for the final NJAC regular season games of the year. Game one is set to begin at 11:30 AM and the team will honor their 14 seniors in a ceremony following the doubleheader.
