RAMAPO DEFEATS WPU 12-9

Roadrunners win 7th straight game

Wayne, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team held off a William Paterson University comeback to defeat the Pioneers, 12-9, to sweep the home-and-home NJAC series. The Roadrunners win their 7th straight game and move to 18-8 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The Pioneers fall to 7-19 overall and 2-7 in the league.
 
Ramapo got on the board first in the game when Matt Lalomia belted a three-run home run, his second of the season. John Higgins reached on a fielder's choice and Jack Tallent singled before Lalomia stepped to the plate to put the Roadrunners up, 3-0. In the fifth, Sean Donaghue led off with his second home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall for a 4-0 lead. Zack Bailey laced a double to left-center which plated Dominick Ciani before Higgins drove in Bailey with a single of his own, 6-0. Lalomia drove in his fourth RBI with a hard hit single to center as Higgins came around to score, 7-0.
 
WPU scored two in the bottom of the fifth before Ramapo added five in the sixth for a 12-2 lead. In the top of the sixth, the bases were loaded for Bailey who drove a single up the middle to allow Donaghue to touch home plate. Following a WPU pitching change, Higgins lifted an RBI sac fly to plate Tyler Guadagno before Ciani later scored on a wild pitch, 10-2. Two more runs came in for the Roadrunners when Will Egner tripled as Bailey and Lalomia scored, 12-2. WPU added one in the sixth and three each in the seventh and eighth to come within three of tying the game. The Roadrunners were able to get out of the eighth with the lead and hold the WPU offense scoreless in the ninth for the NJAC road win.
 
Jack Martin (5-1) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners as he recorded a season high ten strikeouts while he surrendered eight hits and six runs in 6.2 innings of work. Ryan Lasko worked the final 2.1 innings with three strikeouts, no walks and three runs scored on three hits. Lalomia led the way at the plate with four RBI as he finished 2-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Bailey finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Donaghue finished 2-5 with two runs scored and one RBI.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a pair of games starting at 11:30AM.
