Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Saint Joseph's University Long Island, 10-2 today in non-conference action. The Roadrunners move to 2-2 overall while the Golden Eagles now stand at 0-5 on the year.
The Golden Eagles struck first with an unearned run in the second before Ramapo scored single runs in three straight innings. In the fourth
Jesse Swartout tied the game with an RBI double that plated
Zack Bailey, 1-1. In the fifth, Bailey drove in the go ahead run with an RBI double of his own that scored Dominic Ciani before
John Higgins scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for a 3-1 lead. Ramapo added seven runs in the eighth inning to take a 10-1 lead. With the bases loaded and two outs, Higgins scored on a pass ball before Ciani drove home two runs with a hard hit single to left field. Bailey laced a single down the left field line to plate one more before Lalomia's single plated Ciani for an 8-1 lead. Following a SJLI pitching change, Higgins launched a double to center field to plate the final two runs for the Roadrunners, 10-1. The Golden Eagles plated their final run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch.
Jack Martin (2-0) started on the mound for the Roadrunners as he surrendered just three hits in 5.2 innings of work. He struck out nine and gave up just one run (unearned).
Jake Depetris earned the first save of his career. He worked out of a couple jams in the sixth and seventh innings. He went the final 3.1 innings and held SJLI to just one run while striking out six.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon at home when they host Amherst College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 10:30 AM.
