Hackettstown, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team opened the 2024 season with a 21-5 non-conference win over Centenary University. The Cyclones move to 1-2 on the year.
Ramapo struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning when Zach Bailey belted a two-run home run which also plated Dominic Ciani for a quick 2-0 lead. The Cyclones added one in the bottom half of the inning before Ramapo scored six runs in the second. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by
John Higgins.
Centenary added a single run in the third before Ramapo added one in the fifth, a solo home run from
Sean Donaghue; and three in the sixth for a 12-2 lead. The Cyclones put one on the board in the bottom half of the inning before Ramapo exploded for nine in the top of the eighth while Centenary scored two in the bottom half of the inning. Ramapo's big inning was highlighted by a grand slam from
Jesse Swartout.
Ramapo collected 18 hits in their season opener as they were led by Donaghue who finished 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI while Higgins finished 3-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. Swartout was perfect at the plate, 2-2 with two runs scored and a team high four RBI.
Jack Martin (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners as he struck out three, walked two and scattered three hits over five innings of work.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday on the road at Swarthmore College for a non-conference double header beginning at 11:30AM.
