Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's swim team opened the 2024-2025 season with a tough loss to Baruch College this afternoon. The meet came down to the final relay as the Bearcats (1-0 overall) edged out the Roadrunners, 138.5-123.5.
The Roadrunners won seven events in the meet including the 200 medley relay to open the meet. The team, who was made up of
Adam Wright, Joseph Swede, Andy Sholknik and
Doruk Evcimen clocked in at 1:40.38. Evcimen out touched the Bearcats at the wall for the team win.
In the 1,000 freestyle, Wright and
Sean Robinson went 1-2 in the race with times of 10:06.80 and 10:39.36 respectively. Evcimen won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.02 while Sholknik placed third in 1:56.32.
Caleb Baron (1:00.29) and Samuel Liao (1:00.78) finished 2-3 in the 100 backstroke while Swede finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.41. Wright won the 200 fly when he clocked in at 2:02.24 over six seconds ahead of the Bearcats who took second.
AJ Guevara placed third in the same event in 2:16.46. Swede (23.65) grabbed a second place finish in the 50 freestyle and Evcimen earned his second first place finish in the 100 freestyles in 49.55 seconds. Ramapo also won the 500 freestyles when Robinson won in over seven seconds with a time of 5:08.36 while Evcimen posted his third first place finish in the meet in the 100 fly in 54.43.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, October 26th when they travel to Hartwick College for a tri-meet that will also feature Marywood University. The meet is set to start at 1:00 PM.
