Mahwah, NJ: Senior track and field student-athlete,
Cheickna Traore, was named the 2022-2023 NJAC Male Athlete of the Year announced this afternoon at the NJAC Awards Luncheon. Traore becomes the fourth Ramapo College male student-athlete to earn this honor joining Joe Fala (men's soccer, 2019-2020), Jeremy Hernandez (men's track and field, 2017-2018) and Thomas Bonacum (men's basketball, 2016-2017).
Traore wrapped up his Ramapo College career on the track last month at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships winning the 200m crown with a NCAA DIII record time of 20.25 seconds. His NCAA runner-up time in the 100m dash of 10.18 seconds is also #2 All-Time in NCAA DIII. He finishes his career on the DIII track with three NCAA DIII National records (indoor/outdoor 200m and indoor 300m), #2 All-Time in the indoor 400m and outdoor 100m and #3 All-Time in the indoor 500m. Traore won three NCAA National Championships and is a 7x NCAA All-American while he holds eight Ramapo College individual sprint records and a member of two relay teams that hold school records. Traore was also formally awarded with his 2022-2023 NJAC Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year awards.
