Ashland, VA: The #2 Ramapo College softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to #1 seed and host Randolph-Macon College in an elimination game at the NCAA Regionals. The Roadrunners wrap up the 2023 season with a 33-14-1 overall record while the Yellow Jackets advance to the NCAA Regional (40-9) final tomorrow morning where they need to win two to advance to the Super Regional round.
Randolph-Macon opened up with a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Ramapo scored one run in the third and one run in the fourth to tie the game. In the third,
Kori Gargiulo laced an RBI to right field which plated
Mahogany Wheeler while in the fourth the Roadrunners tied the game, 2-2. With two outs,
Katie Rygiel ripped her 21st double of the season before
Alexis Corra belted her 15th of the year in the left-center field gap to plate the tying run.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead back in the fifth inning with a two-run home run while they added an insurance run in the sixth for a 5-2 lead. The RMC defense kept the Roadrunners off the board the remainder of the game to secure their berth to the regional championship where they need to win two games to move onto the Super Regional round.
Marissa DiPaolo (11-5) suffered the loss as she struck out three, walked none and let up eight hits and four runs (three earned).
Kassy Stefanski worked the final 2.2 innings for the Roadrunners with one strikeout, three walks while she let up two hits and one run. Rygiel and Wheeler each finished 2-4 at the plate.
