Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University men's basketball team defeated Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up tonight, 76-70. Montclair State advances to 10-6 overall, 7-5 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners stand at 4-12 overall, 3-9 in the NJAC.
Montclair would jump to an early 10-2 lead just 1:43 into the first half. With 12:54 left in the half
Anthony Corbo sank a three-pointer sparking an 11-0 run for the Roadrunners, 22-19. Montclair would regain the lead with a jump shot from Steven Breeman with 38 seconds left in the first half, 37-36. The two teams would tack on additional points in the remaining time but Montclair would head into the locker room with the advantage, 40-38.
The two teams played an even second half until MSU would go on a 7-0 run capped off by an and one play from Irving Callender, 58-51. The Roadrunners would come within two behind five points from
Mansfield Warren, 56-58. Mike Jackson and Breeman would net back-to-back three-pointer extending their lead 64-56. The two teams traded baskets the remaining 5:27 of play but Ramapo was unable to take the lead as MSU came away with the 76-70 road win.
The Roadrunners were led by
Mark Howell with 14 points,
Peter Gorman with 12 points while
Shane Rooney netted 10.
Jordan Myers and
Marquise Kindel both collected seven rebounds. Ramapo was 26-53 (49%) from the field, 4-13 (31%) from beyond the three point line, and 14-19 (74%) from the free throw line.
MSU sank 14 three-pointers in the game as they were led by Callender and Breeman who tallied 19 points each while Breeman collected six rebounds. Montclair was 23-55 (42%) from the field, 14-42 (33%) from beyond the three point line, and 16-23 (70%) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action Saturday, January 29th when they host Kean University for a 3pm New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
