RAMAPO SWEEPS RUTGERS-CAMDEN TO EARN #3 SEED IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept the final NJAC regular season doubleheader of the season as they earned the #3 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament. The Roadrunners improve to 12-8 overall, 11-7 in the conference while the Scarlet Raptors now stand at 8-16 overall and 7-11 in the NJAC.
 
The Roadrunners earned the #3 seed in the NJAC Baseball Tournament which begins on Tuesday, May 4th with single-elimination games. The Roadrunners will host #6 The College of New Jersey in the quarterfinal round on Friday, May 7th in a best-of-three series. The first game will begin at 12 and the second game is scheduled for 4pm.
 
Game One
Ramapo took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Justin Garthaffner came up big with a two RBI single to left field that allowed Justin Grippo and Brian Baranok. Christian Alonso walked with the bases loaded to plate Hardy before Bryan Franko was hit by a pitch to force home Garthaffner. Justin Grippo then singled home Matt Carovillano before Baranok walked with the bases loaded to force home Alonso for the 6-0 lead.
 
The Scarlet Raptors tacked on one run in the third and fifth innings before Ramapo added four runs in the fifth inning. Grippo and Garett Wiedemann scored on an error before Kyle Buser ripped a double to left-center plating Baranok before Buser later scored on a wild pitch for the 10-2 lead. Rutgers-Camden added one run in the sixth before Ramapo added three runs in the bottom half of the inning with three straight bases loaded walks to Buser, Garthaffner and Carovillano, 13-3. In the eighth inning, TJ Roman smacked a double to left field which allowed Matt Meola and William Egner to push the score 15-3.
 
Matt Stewart (2-2) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo as he let up just one hit over five innings pitched. He struck out one and walked five and let up just two runs (one earned).
 
Grippo, Garthaffner, Carovillano and Wiedemann all collected two hits for the Roadrunners while Garthaffner plated three RBI.
 
Game Two
Rutgers-Camden took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning before Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Meola drove home Sean Donaghue with an RBI single before they tied the game when Wiedemann drove home Alonso with an infield single, 2-2. The Scarlet Raptors took a 3-2 lead with. run in the third before Ramapo plated three runs in the fifth inning. Grippo came up big with a double down the left field line which allowed Wiedemann and Franko to score for a 4-3 lead. Grippo later scored on a wild pitch before Hardy drove home Baranok with a hard-hit ball down the left field line, 6-3. Grippo lifted a sac fly in the sixth inning which plated the seventh run of the game as Meola scored, 7-3.
 
The Scarlet Raptors loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning with two outs before Roadrunner reliever Jeff Millet got out of the jam with a pop fly to right field to seal the sweep.
 
Tim Caulfield (2-0) earned the win on the mound in relief. He worked 4.1 innings and let up only three hits and no runs while he struck out one and walked two. Millet earned his second save of the season as he struck out one, walked two and did not give up a hit. Grippo led the team with three RBI.
