RAMAPO, KEAN SPLIT IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Union, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split a NJAC doubleheader at Kean University. The Roadrunners (5-5 overall, 4-4 NJAC) came back in game one with a 2-1 victory while the Cougars (9-8 overall, 4-4 NJAC) held on to an 8-7 win in game two.
 
In game one, Kean starting pitcher Kevin Stewart recorded a no-hitter through six innings and was lifted before the Roadrunners recorded a hit. Stewart earned a no-decision in the game with eight strikeouts and four walks for the Cougars. Kean scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning when Christian Pellone lifted a sac fly to left field which allowed Frank LoGiudice to score for an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the eighth, Harold Calero led off with a single before pinch runner TJ Roman came into the game. With one out, Justin Grippo took the second pitch he saw laced it over the left field fence for a two-run home run as Ramapo took a 2-1 lead.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Kean put runners on first and second with one out but failed to push a run across to tie the game. Jeff Millett entered the game with one out and recorded a flyout and strikeout to end the inning. In the ninth, Millett recorded a strikeout and induced a groundout and flyout to end the game as he earned his first save of the season.
 
Matt Stewart (1-1) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out four, walked one and scattered six hits over 7.1 innings of work. Millet struck out two, walked none and did not let up a hit in the final 1.2 innings.
 
In game two, Kean got on the board in the top of the first with one run before Ramapo took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Sean Donaghue laced a ground-rule double to center field which allowed Bryan Franko and Brian Baranok to cross home plate for the lead.
 
Kean added three runs in the top of the fourth while Ramapo got one back in the bottom half of the inning. The Cougars added four runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-3 lead. Ramapo tacked one run in the bottom of the eighth when Kellen Hardy scored on an infield groundout from Christian Alonso to cut the Kean lead in half, 4-8.
 
In the bottom of the ninth the Roadrunner put runners on second and third with no outs. Baranok laced a double down the left field line to plate Grippo and Franko and come within two, 6-8.  Baranok moved to third on a wild pitch before Hardy lifted a sac fly to right field for the Roadrunners seventh run of the game. Kean would stop the Ramapo comeback with a strikeout to end the game and earn the 8-7 win.
 
Nick Nemes earned the win on the mound for the Cougars while Justin Hernandez earned the save. Nemes struck out three, walked two and surrendered two hits in 2.1 innings of work. Hernandez worked the final two outs of the game to earn his XX save of the year.
 
Jared Haag took the loss for Ramapo. He struck out one, walked two and let up just one hit in two innings of work. Baranok finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and two walks and three runs scored while Kyle Buser and Hardy each collected two hits. Hardy added two RBI and one run scored.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at Stockton University in a conference doubleheader at 11:30am.
