Wayne, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team defeated NJAC rival William Paterson University tonight on the road, 3-1. The Roadrunners improve to 2-0-1 overall while they hand the Pioneers (1-1) their first loss of the season.
Ramapo got on the board with a goal from
Jonathan Junqueira in the ninth minute of action (8:06) off a long pass in the back from
Mark Buckel to take a 1-0 lead. WPU tied the game 1-1 when Alfredo Gonzalez hit the back of the net in the 24th minute, Chris Fuentes assisted.
In the second half, the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute (82:54) and
Damian Zurawski converted for his first goal of the season to put the Roadrunners up 2-1.
Ederson La Torre made it 3-1 for Ramapo with an insurance goal (86:21) off a pass from Zurawski. The Ramapo defense held WPU the rest of the way to earn the NJAC win.
Ramapo held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game and 21 shots to WPU's seven.
Joshua Schaffer tallied four saves for the Roadrunners in the win while Thomas Hatch collected three for the Pioneers.
