Louisville, KY: Ramapo College cross country runner
Steven Fiumefreddo set a new school record and earned NCAA All-American today at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The 8k race was held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park and featured the top runners from all ten NCAA regions.
The duo of Fiumefreddo and
Chris Andersen went out with the lead pack through the first 1k split with Fiumefreddo in 3rd place and Andersen in 35th. At the 3k split, Fiumefreddo was still with the top pack of runners in 37th place while unfortunately Andersen suffered an injury which took him out of contention. Fiumefreddo continued to run the race of his career and crossed the finish line with a new school record of 24:20.8. He finished 37th overall while this is the highest finish for a Roadrunner at the NCAA Championships in program history. The top 40 finishers are awarded All-American and Fiumefreddo becomes just the second Roadrunner to achieve this honor. Andersen did cross the finish line with a time of 28:33.7.
Congratulations to both runners on a great season!
