WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to Kean University, 63-55, in tonight's NJAC matchup. The Cougars improve to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 9-12 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
 
Abbegail Whildin and Sarah Olivero traded baskets for both teams before Shannon McCoy put Kean up 4-2. A jumper from Sarah Minchin tied the game at four before a three-pointer from. Cindy Foresta game Kean the lead for the remainder of the first quarter as they went in to the second up 15-7. Ramapo came back in the second quarter when they went on an 8-1 run, with Samantha Rinaldi and Bridget Cahill each contributing four points. Ramapo's run was cut by a baseline three-point basket by Kean's Olivia Nilsen, keeping the cougars in the lead, 26-21. Kean held a slight advantage at the half up 26-23 as Jessica Repasy tallied the final basket of the quarter for the Roadrunners to come within three. The Roadrunners shot 34.5% (10-29) from the field in the first two quarters combined. They were led by Rinaldi who scored six points while she grabbed three rebounds. The Cougars shot 33.3% (9-27) from the field, led by Nilsen who tallied six points while McCoy led the team with four rebounds.
 
Both teams came out of the locker room with intensity, trading jumpers from inside the paint, each putting seven points on the board. The Roadrunners tied it up with a three-point shot from Bridget Cahill from the top of the key, 33-33. The Cougars tried to chip ahead with a three-point shot from Casey Filiault, but Ramapo's Caleigh Mcaunuff answered with one of her own to keep the Roadrunners up, 38-37. Going into the final period, Repasy was the first to put some points on the board with a layup. Later in the period, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run, led by Cindy Foresta. Kean would take a 49-48 lead for good with 5:16 left in the game on a layup from McCoy. Ramapo would cut the lead to two on a big three-pointer from McAnuff with 2:38 left to play before Kean tacked on baskets from Olivero and Foresta to extend the lead 59-53. Rinaldi sank a pair of free throws for Ramapo while McCoy and Payce Lange converted on their free throws in the final seconds of the game at Kean posted a 63-55 road win.
 
The Roadrunners were led by three players who scored in double digits, Rinaldi with 13, and Cahill and Repasy both with 10 points. Repasy also led the team with five rebounds. The Roadrunners shot 38.9% overall from the field.
 
The Cougars were led by three players who shot in double digits, McCoy with 12 points, Forersta with 11 and Payce Lange with 10, overall Kean shot 39.3% from the field.  Foresta also led the team with 10 rebounds.
 
Ramapo returns to action this Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival TCNJ for a game at 1pm.
