Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team snapped the Privateers of SUNY Maritime's 10 game win streak today in non-conference action, 12-5. The Roadrunners improve to 9-8 overall while the Privateers stand at 15-8.
The Roadrunners belted out 15 hits throughout the game, led by
Matt Carovillano who went 3-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Vincenzo Sita went 2-4 on the day with two runs scored and two RBI, while
Bryan Franko finished hitting 2-4 with three RBI.
The Roadrunners jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning when Sita had a hard-hit double to center field allowing
Anthony Kuzmenko and
Justin Grippo to cross home plate. Kuzmenko led off the inning with a walk and Grippo reached on an error by the short stop. Sita then plated the third run when
Matt Meola singled to right field. Maritime tacked on one unearned run in the third inning to bring them within two of the Roadrunners, 1-3.
Ramapo dominated the third inning plating five runs off four hits.
Matt Meola started the Roadrunners off by sending the ball into left field for a double. Carovilliano would then drive the ball into center field on a 3-1 count, for a double, bringing Meola home. Franko stepped up to the plate bring Carovillano home on a sacrifice fly. With two outs on the board Kuzmenko would lace the ball into right field before both Grippo and Sita would walk. With the bases loaded
Kyle Buser would step up to bat and reach on error allowing both Kuzmenko and Grippo to score.
Vincent Timpanelli launched the ball into right field earning an RBI double, 8-1.
Maritime would tack on three more runs closing the gap to four in the sixth inning before the Roadrunners would plate two more in the sixth, 10-4. The Privateers would tack on their final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, 5-10. Buser led off the seventh inning for the Roadrunners swinging on an 0-1 count sending the ball over the right field fence for his first home run of the season. The Roadrunners would tack on one more in the inning, taking the 12-5 victory.
Tyler Lombardo (2-1) started on the mound for the Roadrunners pitching 5.1 innings, striking out two, walking four, and scattering five hits while giving up four runs.
Matt Stewart closed out the game for the Roadrunners facing 10 batters over two innings, striking out two and scattering four hits.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow for a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up against William Paterson University at home, first pitch is at 3:30pm.
